Saurpani used to be a village of vitality. People sang and danced and had fun with Ghatu, Rodhi, Kauda and Maruni dances. But now a days it has kind of lost its charm as a significant population, especially the young people have been either displaced or gone to the cities and even foreign countries looking for better opportunities.
- Livelihood
Agriculture is the main source of livelihood of most of the people here. Almost all farmers here produce traditional crops like paddy, corn, millet wheat, barley and potatoes. Now a days some farmers have started to to do cash crops. Many have reared goats and cattle. Due to the employment problem, many young men and women have entered the city, and some have gone abroad. Most of the people have gone to the Gulf countries, especially Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Malaysia, to fulfill their basic needs. They are forced to do risky work after spending their physical and mental labor. Sometimes they go to countries such as Australia, Japan, America and Britain. Even after they return from foreign employment, if the knowledge, skills, experience, and capital they have acquired are invested in the productive sector of the socio-economic sector in the country, agricultural trade and industries will flourish. It can be expected that this village will change its fortunes soon if investments and other employment related programs can be brought to the cooperatives and banks here.
